We’re supporting a well-established Portsmouth-based manufacturing organisation with a strong international footprint across Europe, Asia and the US. Operating in highly regulated engineering and electronics markets, this business places safety, quality and continuous improvement at the heart of everything it does.
What’s the role all about?
As Head of HSE, you’ll lead the health, safety and environmental strategy across all UK operations, while also providing governance and alignment support to global sites overseas. This is a senior leadership role where you’ll influence business-wide decision making, shape culture and ensure the organisation operates safely, compliantly and sustainably.
You’ll Be Responsible For:
- Developing and leading the HSE strategy, policies and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with UK legislation and international standards (ISO 45001 and ISO 14001)
- Owning and maintaining the HSE management system
- Advising senior leadership and reporting HSE performance at board level
- Driving accident prevention, behavioural safety and cultural change initiatives
- Leading audits, inspections and incident investigations
- Working closely with Engineering, Production and People teams to embed HSE best practice
- Reducing environmental impact through energy, waste and emissions initiatives
- Managing COSHH, REACH and waste compliance
- Designing and delivering HSE training across all levels of the organisation
- Supporting global HSE alignment and continuous improvement projects
What You’ll Bring:
- 10+ years’ experience in a senior HSE leadership role within manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge of UK HSE legislation and standards
- Experience operating in high-risk environments (e.g. electroplating, machining, assembly)
- Proven delivery of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent); CMIOSH preferred
- Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels
- A track record of driving behavioural and cultural change
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management capability
