An established membership based organisation is seeking an experienced Pensions Officer to lead its Pensions Section within the Legal Services Department. This is a senior specialist role responsible for developing pensions policy, providing expert advice to members and staff, supporting negotiations with employers, and coordinating pensions awareness and campaigning activity.
The Role
- Lead the development of pensions policy, ensuring it reflects current legislation, best practice and the needs of members.
- Provide specialist advice on workplace and state pensions to members, staff and representatives.
- Support consultations and negotiations with employers on pension scheme changes, closures and new arrangements.
- Represent the organisation externally at conferences, forums and relevant working groups.
- Coordinate pensions awareness campaigns and oversee the delivery of a national pensions conference.
- Maintain and develop pensions-related online resources and learning materials.
- Manage and support a small specialist team within the Pensions Section.
- Provide guidance in complex pension cases, including mergers, TUPE transfers, insolvency, redundancy and pension disputes, and liaise with trustees and regulatory bodies where required.
The role involves engagement with stakeholders across the UK and will require travel, overnight stays and occasional evening and weekend working.
About You
- In-depth knowledge of workplace pension schemes and the UK State Pension system.
- Up-to-date understanding of UK pensions legislation and current trends affecting pension provision.
- Significant experience of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution schemes, including interpreting complex technical and actuarial information.
- Experience of research, policy development and producing briefings or reports.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex pensions issues clearly to non-specialist audiences.
- Experience of training, briefing or presenting to groups, meetings or conferences.
- The ability to prioritise workloads, meet tight deadlines and respond flexibly to changing demands.

- Generous holiday entitlement – 24 days rising to 32 days plus bank and customary holidays (pro-rata to commencing month in holiday year and number of days a week worked).

Additional Information
