We're supporting a major organisation delivering asset management and facilities services within a highly secure maritime and defence environment in Portsmouth. You'll join a multi-disciplinary Estates Surveying team working across a unique estate that blends historic infrastructure with modern, mission-critical systems.
As an M&E Surveyor, you'll be part of a specialist surveying team providing detailed mechanical and electrical condition surveys, defect analysis and technical reporting across a large operational estate. This role has a strong mechanical bias, particularly around heating, ventilation and building services systems, and suits someone confident working both independently and as part of a wider technical team.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Undertaking general and planned surveys across buildings, utilities and infrastructure
- Carrying out asset condition surveys to Level 4 using recognised grading methodologies
- Producing detailed technical reports, scopes of work and cost estimates
- Assessing mechanical and electrical defects and recommending value-for-money solutions
- Advising clients on asset condition, statutory compliance and best practice
- Preparing option studies, feasibility studies and cost appraisals
- Supporting forward works planning with accurate survey data
- Maintaining electronic survey records and databases
- Liaising with clients, service providers and subcontractors
- Ensuring all work considers Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
- Providing technical support to colleagues and internal stakeholders
This is a varied, site-based role where no two days are the same.
To succeed as an M&E Surveyor, you'll bring:
- 5 years experience in surveying, construction or facilities management
- Strong mechanical engineering background (heating/ventilation essential)
- Experience surveying building services and infrastructure
- Knowledge of building regulations, CDM and H&S legislation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confident IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel and databases)
- A logical, methodical and professional approach to work
Qualifications (ideal, not all essential):
- HNC minimum in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or Surveying
- Degree-qualified (desirable)
- Relevant training such as: Heating systems, 18th Edition, Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height / Confined Spaces / MEWP, IOSH or NEBOSH (or similar)
- Security clearance or ability to obtain
