We're supporting a leading facilities management and engineering organisation who are looking to recruit a Mechanical Team Leader to join their team based in Portsmouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within one of the UK's most unique and secure engineering environments, supporting critical infrastructure and leading a team of skilled engineers.
As the Mechanical Team Leader, you'll be responsible for leading the day-to-day delivery of planned, reactive and statutory mechanical maintenance across a large and complex site. You'll manage a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently, while maintaining compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance people management with technical support, helping to deliver high standards of maintenance, customer service and operational performance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of Mechanical Engineers
- Provide technical support and attend maintenance activities alongside your team where required
- Plan and coordinate planned, reactive and remedial maintenance works
- Ensure all statutory and regulatory maintenance is completed in line with compliance requirements
- Carry out quality assurance inspections and spot checks to ensure work meets company standards
- Monitor KPIs and service delivery performance, taking corrective action where required
- Schedule labour, materials and resources to maximise operational efficiency
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors and customers to coordinate maintenance activities
- Support mechanical maintenance across critical infrastructure, waterfront services and operational facilities
- Promote safe systems of work and ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation
- Ensure all maintenance documentation is completed accurately using CAFM systems
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering operations
What you'll need
To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
- Previous experience in a Mechanical Team Leader, Mechanical Supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor role
- Strong mechanical maintenance background within Facilities Management, Building Services, Defence, Industrial or Heavy Engineering
- Experience leading engineering teams and driving performance
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
- Experience using Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems
- Good understanding of statutory compliance and safe systems of work
- Strong organisational, planning and communication skills
- Desirable IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
- Experience working within highly regulated or secure environments
- Mechanical engineering qualification or apprenticeship
- Experience managing KPI-driven maintenance contracts
- Previous experience within Defence, Maritime or Critical Infrastructure environments
