Are you an experienced Manual Machinist or Tool Room Machinist with a strong background operating conventional machinery?
Are you a time-served engineer who enjoys producing precision components, working from technical drawings and taking ownership of machining work from start to finish?
We're supporting a leading manufacturing business in New Milton who are looking to recruit an experienced General Machinist to join their Tool Room.
This is a hands-on position that would suit an experienced machinist who is confident with manual lathes and mills and has spent significant time working within a Tool Room environment. What's the role all about?
As the General Machinist , you'll be responsible for supporting internal manufacturing and tooling requirements, producing components to specified quality standards using a range of conventional Tool Room machinery.
Working closely with Production, Quality and Production Engineering, you'll manufacture components from technical engineering drawings, using your machining knowledge and experience to ensure accuracy, quality and consistency.
This isn't simply a machine operating position. We're looking for a time-served machinist who understands conventional machining techniques, can confidently interpret engineering drawings and has the experience to work independently when required.
Key responsibilitiesSet and operate a range of conventional/manual Tool Room machineryOperate manual lathes, mills, drills, bandsaws and off-hand grindersManufacture components and tooling to specified engineering and quality requirementsRead and interpret detailed technical engineering drawingsWork with engineering tolerances and understand associated GD&TCarry out accurate dimensional inspection of manufactured componentsUse gauges, micrometers, calipers and electronic measuring equipmentEnsure documented process controls are followed throughout manufacturingWork closely with Quality, Production and Production Engineering teamsIdentify and resolve manufacturing problems using a logical and data-led approachMaintain excellent standards of housekeeping within the Tool RoomEnsure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures and Health & Safety requirementsWhat you'll needWe're looking for someone with substantial hands-on machining experience. You'll need: To be a time-served engineerA minimum of 5 years' experience working within a Tool Room environmentMechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalentExtensive experience setting and operating manual/conventional machineryStrong experience with manual lathes and milling machinesExperience operating drills, bandsaws, grinders and other Tool Room equipmentAbility to confidently read and interpret technical engineering drawingsKnowledge of GD&TExcellent understanding of engineering measurement and inspection techniquesExtensive experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges and electronic measuring equipmentStrong attention to detailLogical problem-solving abilityDesirableIt would also be beneficial if you have: HNC, degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical EngineeringKnowledge of CAD software packagesPrevious experience using CAD within a machining or Tool Room environmentAbout youYou'll be an experienced machinist who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
