Are you an experienced Engineering Team Leader, Maintenance Team Leader or Engineering Supervisor looking to take the next step in your career? We're supporting a global manufacturing business who are looking to recruit a Technical Team Leader to join their Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a team of skilled Maintenance Technicians and Electricians within a highly automated manufacturing environment, helping to maximise equipment performance, improve reliability and support operational excellence.

What's the role all about? As the Technical Team Leader, you'll be responsible for leading the engineering support team, ensuring production equipment is maintained safely, efficiently and in line with business priorities. You'll oversee planned preventative maintenance, coordinate engineering resources and work closely with Production, Quality and Operations teams to minimise downtime and maximise manufacturing performance. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine technical expertise with people management and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities
  • Engineering Leadership
    • Lead, motivate and develop a team of Production Maintenance Technicians and Electricians
    • Plan and prioritise engineering resources to support production operations
    • Manage team performance, attendance, training and development
    • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews
    • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Maintenance & Reliability
    • Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes are delivered effectively
    • Support reactive maintenance activities and coordinate engineering response to breakdowns
    • Improve equipment reliability throughout the asset lifecycle
    • Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance
    • Support installation, commissioning and ongoing optimisation of manufacturing equipment
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Lead engineering improvement projects to improve productivity, reliability and cost efficiency
    • Identify and implement engineering solutions to eliminate waste and improve operational performance
    • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on engineering projects and business initiatives
  • Operational Support
    • Work closely with Production and Operations teams to ensure engineering priorities align with business needs
    • Support production changeovers, machine set-ups and skills transfer activities
    • Maintain engineering documentation, procedures and compliance standards
    • Promote safe systems of work and ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GMP and audit requirements

What you'll need

  • Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Previous experience leading an engineering or maintenance team
  • Strong background within a manufacturing, production or regulated environment
  • Experience managing planned preventative maintenance programmes
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Strong people management and coaching ability
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Good computer literacy

Desirable

  • Experience within cosmetics, pharmaceutical, FMCG or other regulated manufacturing sectors
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience working with automated production equipment
  • IOSH or other Health & Safety qualification
  • Experience supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations
