EC&I Engineer

Location: Eccles

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000

Working Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

The Role

This position is to provide electrical, control and instrumentation expertise to support plant operations, new projects and ongoing maintenance in a highly regulated COMAH environment. In order to align with business HSE requirements, this position is instrumental to ensuring the reliability, safety and compliance of all electrical, control and instrumentation systems in the plant.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the site’s subject matter expert for all EC&I matters.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of plant equipment.
  • Develop and maintain site EC&I standards (including ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, functional safety), in alignment with legal requirements.
  • Lead & support projects from concept through to commissioning.
  • Oversee design, installation and commissioning of new EC&I systems, ensuring compliance with COMAH and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams on preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance.
  • Support with troubleshooting and fault-finding across a range of systems.
  • Drive reliability improvements through root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with the HSE team to ensure EC&I operations and projects satisfy relevant regulations.
  • Maintain and develop safety instrumented systems, ensuring proper documentation, proof testing and compliance.
  • Participate in COMAH related activities, including audits, hazard studies, safety reports and regulator inspections.
  • Establish and maintain technical documentation – drawings, loop diagrams, schematics.
  • Implement standards for the management of safety critical systems.
  • Support with continuous improvement initiatives onsite.
  • Manage contractors and liaise with external stakeholders.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering.
  • 5+ years of EC&I engineering experience within a high hazard chemical environment.
  • Proven experience of executing and commissioning EC&I projects.
  • Familiar with COMAH regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of process control systems, e.g. PLCs.
  • Understanding of electrical distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of DSEAR, ATEX, HAZOP, LOPA.
