We’re supporting a well-established Portsmouth-based manufacturer specialising in high-quality electrical and electronic components supplied to global markets including aerospace, medical, industrial, automotive and defence. With continued investment in R&D, design tools and testing facilities, this is an exciting time to join the Product Design team.
What’s the role all about?
As a Design Engineer, you’ll work within the Product Design & Development team, contributing to the design and development of new and existing products from initial concept through to production launch.
You’ll play a key role in expanding the product portfolio, working closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality and other internal teams to deliver high-quality, compliant and commercially successful designs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing 3D CAD models and detailed technical drawings for manufacture and customers
- Supporting Sales with technical input and product knowledge
- Working to global engineering standards and EN9100 requirements
- Leading or contributing to DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate design risks
- Coordinating product development activities across cross-functional teams
- Planning and managing daily design tasks to meet project deadlines and KPIs
- Checking drawings and customer documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Managing document and drawing updates to maintain workload balance
- Supporting continuous improvement across design processes and standards
This is a hands-on design role where you’ll have real influence over how products are developed and launched.
What you’ll need
To be successful as a Design Engineer, you’ll bring:
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering
- Experience using Creo Parametric or SolidWorks (FEA experience beneficial)
- Good understanding of engineering tolerancing and quality procedures
- Strong communication skills and confidence working cross-functionally
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- A structured, organised approach with good attention to detail
- Willingness to learn about production processes and design standardisation
