We're supporting a leading manufacturing business in Portsmouth who are looking to recruit a CNC Sliding Head Setter / Operator to join their growing Machine Shop team. As a CNC Sliding Head Setter / Operator, you’ll be responsible for setting and operating CNC Sliding Head lathes, producing precision components to the highest quality standards. Working as part of an experienced machining team, you’ll ensure machines are set correctly, components meet specification and production targets are achieved while maintaining exceptional levels of quality and accuracy. This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, problem-solving skills and a proactive approach are highly valued.
Key responsibilities- Set and operate CNC Sliding Head lathes, preferably Star machines
- Produce precision-engineered components to tight tolerances
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment
- Use micrometers, verniers, gauges and other inspection equipment to verify component quality
- Monitor machining performance and make adjustments where required
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting
- Maintain accurate production and quality records
- Work closely with colleagues to support production performance and continuous improvement
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, quality and health & safety
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- Previous experience setting and operating CNC Sliding Head lathes
- Experience with Star Sliding Head machines or similar
- Strong knowledge of Fanuc controls
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong commitment to producing high-quality work
- A proactive and team-focused approach
- Experience programming CNC Sliding Head machines
- Background within precision engineering, aerospace or electronics manufacturing
- Knowledge of continuous improvement principles
- Experience working to ISO or AS9100 quality standards
