The predicted salary is between 40000 - 40000 £ per year.
You will be developing existing and creating new, innovative designs that comply with all relevant legislation / Type Approval requirements. You will study the manufacture of products in the assembly areas to make recommendations for product improvement and actively implement changes. In addition to this, you will check and transfer 3D models for new and existing products to enable production on Bystronic laser and bending machines. For all new parts, you will create BoMs on the ERP system and make revisions when required.
Main Responsibilities
- Product development: Create innovative, new ideas with a view to improving all company products.
- Recommend plans for the introduction of new products.
- Research into new ideas and technical developments within the trailer industry.
- Ensure that the projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Apply DFM and DFA principles to all new design projects, ensuring sufficient information exists to manufacture the product efficiently.
- Provide full 3D/2D CAD drawings issued to all departments as appropriate, ensuring concise communication of information.
- Provide sufficient information in a timely manner to allow creation of BOMs quickly, as required by production.
- Fully understand the requirements of the bender and laser.
- Import 3D models to the laser/bender software and output programs to the shop floor machines.
- Support resolution of any problems they may have.
- Work with manufacturing to ensure that all necessary jigs and fixtures are manufactured prior to release of new or modified products.
- Provide sufficient information to allow efficiency within manufacturing areas.
- Propose/demonstrate the assembly sequence to team leaders for effective assembly of the product, using a hands-on approach when necessary.
- Observe the builders and look for methods that will speed up the process, such as more concise drawings and/or assembly manuals, improved jigs and fixtures.
- Consider requests for tooling that would facilitate improvements in output.
- Follow up visits to the assembly areas to ensure that your designs are running smoothly after the initial bedding-in period, to maximise production, answer any questions, and suggest/implement improvements to enhance production efficiencies and reduce costs.
- Create routes and structures on the ERP system with associated data within a BoM.
- Make revisions and updates as required.
- Provide accurate technical advice when required.
- Respect the confidentiality of all Department activities and not disclose any information to unauthorised personnel.
- Keep filing system in order and up to date.
Customer Enquiries
- Provide professional and accurate advice to customers when answering technical questions.
- Occasional customer visits as required.
Production Support
- Help solve production problems and look for ways to increase productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Provide support for Sales and liaise with Purchasing.
The Candidate
- Previous experience with Solidworks 2D/3D CAD.
- Previous experience with Bystronic Laser and Bend programs.
- Proficient with MS Office programs.
- Previous experience with ERP systems.
- Must have experience designing in a welding/fabrication environment.
- Must be able to do occasional travel.
- Must be happy with customer-facing duties.
