Are you a hands-on Design Engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through to manufacture? Do you thrive on detailed calculations, 3D modelling and delivering “right first time” engineering solutions? If so, this could be an excellent opportunity. We’re supporting a specialist engineering and manufacturing business operating in the aerospace sector. This role sits within a technical team focused on delivering high-integrity engineered products from initial customer specification through to manufacture and installation.
As a Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of product design — from interpreting customer requirements through to producing detailed 3D models, drawings and technical documentation ready for manufacture. This is a varied role where you’ll balance technical design work with customer interaction and cross-functional collaboration.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Analysing customer and sales requirements
- Producing 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings
- Preparing technical specifications and reports
- Performing detailed design calculations to ensure performance and compliance
- Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Value Engineering principles
- Conducting design reviews throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensuring integrity of design and performance specifications
- Providing technical support to Sales teams and customers
- Collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Planning teams
- Liaising with subcontractors where required
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining theory, practical engineering and customer-facing support.
To succeed as a Design Engineer, you’ll bring:
- Degree or HNC (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant mechanical engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics and pressure systems
- Competence using 3D CAD software (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
- Experience producing technical reports and engineering documentation
- Strong communication skills across technical and commercial teams
You’re methodical, detail-driven and focused on delivering high-quality engineering work. You enjoy solving technical challenges and ensuring designs are robust, compliant and manufacturable. You’ll be:
- Analytical and numerate
- Organised and disciplined
- Comfortable working independently and within a team
- Confident communicating with customers and colleagues
- Focused on continuous improvement and “right first time” design
Opportunity to work within aerospace engineering, full design lifecycle exposure, strong cross-functional collaboration, stable, specialist manufacturing environment, technical development and progression opportunities.
