We’re looking for a motivated and curious Data Platform Engineer to join our Data Foundations team and help build, operate, and evolve the internal data platforms that power analytics, data science, and emerging AI workflows across King.
With over 65 petabytes of data and 130+ billion events generated every day, data is at the heart of King’s business. The Game Platform Data organisation, distributed across Barcelona, London, and Stockholm, is responsible for ingesting, processing, and exposing this data in a reliable, scalable, and usable way. You will be part of the Data Foundations team, owning and operating the shared data platforms and services used by hundreds of practitioners across the company.
Responsibilities
- Help operate, monitor, and maintain shared data platforms and services, ensuring reliability and performance for data engineering, analytics, and data science workflows.
- Contribute to the operation and administration of third‑party platforms, including configuration, access management, upgrades, and extensions with integrations and tooling to meet internal needs.
- Contribute to platform lifecycle activities such as upgrades, dependency management, and improvements to stability, security, and scalability.
- Build and improve automation, tooling, and services in Python to support platform operations, user workflows, and emerging use cases.
- Assist in integrating internal and external systems, enabling seamless data, metadata, and workflow connectivity across platforms.
- Work with more experienced engineers to design and implement scalable and maintainable solutions, learning best practices along the way.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and data engineers to understand their needs and help improve the platforms they rely on.
- Support the development of reusable components, libraries, and patterns that improve consistency and developer experience across shared platforms.
- Participate in incident response, debugging, and operational support to diagnose and resolve issues in production systems.
- Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing, building your skills while supporting a strong engineering culture.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of professional experience in a relevant field such as platform engineering, software engineering, or data engineering.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and basic DevOps practices.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Crossplane.
- Experience supporting or operating production systems.
- Good understanding of containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Strong interest in data platforms and how data is used across organisations.
- Willingness to learn from others and develop new skills across different domains.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer‑focused mindset.
Bonus Skills
- Experience working with data tools or platforms such as orchestration tools, BI platforms, notebook environments, or data warehouses.
- Strong working knowledge of Python, including writing clean, maintainable code.
- Familiarity with SQL and data modelling concepts.
- Interest in improving developer experience and internal tooling.
- Exposure to metadata management, data discovery, or data governance concepts.
- Understanding of data science and analytics workflows and tooling.
- Understanding of data engineering workflows and tooling.
