Founded in 1982 by three brothers in a basement flat in Brighton, King & McGaw exists to celebrate art. With forty years of printing and framing experience under our belts, world-leading institutions – such as the V&A, Tate, and National Gallery – stock our products, and we’re proud guardians of prestigious licenses to produce iconic artworks. United by a shared passion for fine art, we’re making it our mission to preserve it for posterity. We conserve rare pieces, we represent emerging artists, and we finance exciting creative bursaries. We are recruiting an Art Publisher to join our busy and creative Publishing team, who are responsible for growing and shaping the collection of fine art prints, limited editions and rare posters that we retail on kingandmcgaw.com.

The primary function of the role is to identify artists and image archives to publish on our consumer website, managing the process end to end. The ideal candidate will have strong artworld connections which they can leverage, a deep appreciation for the arts, a strong editorial eye, and the ability to manage multiple publishing projects from inception to completion. This role involves collaborating with artists, designers and marketing to curate, produce and promote artworks. We expect this role to be able to balance commerciality and the K&M brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Development – leverage artworld connections to identify and acquire new artists for kingandmcgaw.com
  • Project management: oversee the publishing process to include range development, contracts and collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Collaboration – build relationships with our artists to keep open future projects or opportunities
  • Strategy – Help grow the brand by identifying new audiences or taste-gaps in the current collection and address these through publishing.
  • Shape and maintain the company’s brand identity within the art community, establishing partnerships with artists, galleries, museums, and art fairs to expand our audience
  • Industry Trends – stay updated on trends in the contemporary and decorative art world

Skill and experience required:

  • 3 years+ experience in a curatorial environment
  • Established network within the art and publishing industries
  • Knowledge of contemporary art trends, artists, and market dynamics
  • Academic background in art or adjacent subject
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple projects on tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
