We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, professional Student SupportWorker from November 2026. This non-teaching role would suit an individual whois able to provide appropriate academic, behavioural and pastoral support forstudents as well as build effective, positive relationships with students. Thesuccessful candidate will operate as part of a team of Student Support Workerswho excel in promoting positive attitudes and behaviour at all times. Closeliaison with Senior Leaders and other members of the Academy’s pastoral team isa key part of this role.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
- Establisha systematic method of supporting students through effective andproductive 1:1 sessions and group sessions.
- Identifysupport needs amongst students during initial sessions, which lead to theprovision of effective support based on the needs of the individual.
- Knowledgeof and ability to support students in a range of areas, including anger,emotional support, self-esteem, anxiety, self-harm, sexual exploitation,bereavement, building resilience, bullying, friendship issues,transitioning difficulties, healthy eating, hygiene, online safety, andpuberty.
- Workwith families which include multiple children, creating action plans whenleading meetings, as appropriate.
- Offerprovision which supports students in achieving academic targets and goals,using assessment data as necessary.
- Useknowledge of external services within the local area to provideappropriate support to individuals and families, including makingreferrals to appropriate agencies.
- Protectchildren within the academy, ensuring that safeguarding takes place in aneffective and timely manner, assessing the level of safeguarding neededwithin this element of your role.
- Makedecisions about whether concerns should be followed up through universalproviders, early help assessment (EHA) or via a referral to childservices.
- Attendmulti-agency meetings, both internally within the academy and on anexternal basis.
- Adhereto government policies with relation to all aspects of the role, includingsafeguarding. This includes the identification and recognition of risk inan emotional, sexual, physical and neglectful context.
- Createmotivating and effective programmes to support pupils in a variety ofareas.
- Attendand take an active role in protecting students through attendance atmulti-agency meetings in which representative identify local risks andissues for pupils of the academy.
- Takean active role within the anti-bullying steering group within the academy.
- Supportand lead peer mentors within the academy effectively, ensuring that theyplay a key role in supporting students within the academy.
- Manageworkload by creating a week-in-view and keeping a diary of support offeredto a variety of pupils.
- Provideappropriate support to support colleagues with supervision of theInclusion Centre as appropriate
- Demonstrateeffectiveness of the support provided through statistical data whichevidences ‘closed’ support cases and ‘exited’ students.
