This Attendance & Safeguarding Officer post at King James Academy Royston runs day-to-day attendance work, with the postholder engaging students, families and outside agencies to improve it. The core of the job is monitoring registers, leading attendance meetings and support plans, and acting as Deputy DSL. The role runs in term time, Monday to Friday, and pairs attendance management with safeguarding duties. It starts as soon as possible, requires an enhanced DBS check and carries no visa sponsorship.
What the job involves
- Lead the operational management of attendance
- Monitor daily attendance on Arbor and coordinate first-day response procedures
- Identify students at risk of persistent absence and lead attendance meetings and support plans
- Undertake home visits and welfare checks, working with families and external agencies
- Act as Deputy DSL, maintain safeguarding records and attend safeguarding meetings and referrals
- Analyse attendance trends and produce reports for leaders, governors and the Trust
- Ensure registers are accurate and statutory requirements are met
- Monitor lateness and attendance concerns
- Respond to attendance concerns linked to safeguarding risks
- Monitor vulnerable groups and the impact of interventions
- Coordinate in-year admissions and manage student transition records
- Develop positive relationships with families and support staff with attendance procedures
