Join an exciting and growing Clinical Trials and Research team. Our client is looking for a highly organised, motivated and detail-focused individual to join their Clinical Trials and Research team as a Clinical Trials Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in healthcare, research and medical innovation and is looking to develop a career in clinical trials. Previous clinical trials experience is not essential.
We are keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience from a range of backgrounds, including:
- Healthcare administration
- Patient co-ordinator or patient services roles

If you have strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, confidence communicating with patients and a genuine willingness to learn, we can provide the training and support needed to develop your knowledge and skills within clinical trials and research. You will receive structured development and exposure to areas including clinical trial administration, participant coordination, recruitment and screening, research data management, clinical imaging, sample processing, Good Clinical Practice and clinical research procedures.
The role involves working alongside a world-renowned professor in his field, the Lead Clinical Trials Coordinator, Clinical Trials Coordinators and the wider clinical research team, supporting the delivery of a range of industry-sponsored and clinic-initiated clinical trials and research projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the day-to-day administration and coordination of clinical trials
- Preparing study documentation and materials for participant visits
- Maintaining accurate study records, trackers and essential documentation
- Coordinating participant appointments and follow-up visits
- Welcoming and supporting participants throughout their study visits
- Supporting participant recruitment and screening activity
- Entering and managing study data across electronic systems and databases
- Supporting monitoring visits, audits, inspections and sponsor meetings
- Preparing clinical trial rooms, equipment and study materials
- Supporting research data collection and scientific outputs
- Developing skills in ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing
- Supporting sample preparation, processing, storage and shipment
- Undertaking further clinical skills training where appropriate as you develop in the role
This is a genuinely developmental position, offering the opportunity to gain broad experience across clinical research and progressively take on greater responsibility as your knowledge, confidence and competency develop.
Working hours: This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. The Clinical Trials Department operates a shift-based working pattern, with typical shifts including:
- 08:00–17:00
- 09:00–18:00
- 10:00–19:00
Each shift will normally include a one-hour lunch break. Clinical trials are time-sensitive, so we are looking for someone who can demonstrate flexibility when required. From time to time, this may include earlier starts, later finishes, occasional weekend work or appointments and procedures outside the usual shift pattern, depending on study and participant requirements.
About you: You do not need previous clinical trials experience to apply. We are looking for someone with:

Previous experience in healthcare, patient coordination, clinical administration, ophthalmology, optometry or research would be advantageous, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in candidates from other organised and professional environments who can demonstrate the right aptitude, professionalism and willingness to learn.
