Join an exciting and growing Clinical Trials and Research team
Our client is looking for a highly organised, motivated and detail-focused individual to join their Clinical Trials and Research team as a Clinical Trials Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in healthcare, research and medical innovation and is looking to develop a career in clinical trials.
Previous clinical trials experience is not essential. We are keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience from a range of backgrounds, including:
- Healthcare administration
- Patient co-ordinator or patient services roles
- Medical or clinical administration
- Hospital or clinic-based administration
- Research administration
- Private healthcare
- Ophthalmology or optometry
- Customer-facing roles involving complex administration and coordination
If you have strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, confidence communicating with patients and a genuine willingness to learn, we can provide the training and support needed to develop your knowledge and skills within clinical trials and research. You will receive structured development and exposure to areas including clinical trial administration, participant coordination, recruitment and screening, research data management, clinical imaging, sample processing, Good Clinical Practice and clinical research procedures.
The role
Working alongside a world renowned professor in his field, the Lead Clinical Trials Coordinator, Clinical Trials Coordinators and the wider clinical research team, you will support the delivery of a range of industry-sponsored and clinic-initiated clinical trials and research projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the day-to-day administration and coordination of clinical trials
- Preparing study documentation and materials for participant visits
- Maintaining accurate study records, trackers and essential documentation
- Coordinating participant appointments and follow-up visits
- Welcoming and supporting participants throughout their study visits
- Supporting participant recruitment and screening activity
- Entering and managing study data across electronic systems and databases
- Supporting monitoring visits, audits, inspections and sponsor meetings
- Preparing clinical trial rooms, equipment and study materials
- Supporting research data collection and scientific outputs
- Developing skills in ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing
- Supporting sample preparation, processing, storage and shipment
- Undertaking further clinical skills training where appropriate as you develop in the role
This is a genuinely developmental position, offering the opportunity to gain broad experience across clinical research and progressively take on greater responsibility as your knowledge, confidence and competency develop.
Working hours
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. The Clinical Trials Department operates a shift-based working pattern, with typical shifts including:
- 08:00β17:00
- 09:00β18:00
- 10:00β19:00
Each shift will normally include a one-hour lunch break. Clinical trials are time-sensitive, so we are looking for someone who can demonstrate flexibility when required. From time to time, this may include earlier starts, later finishes, occasional weekend work or appointments and procedures outside the usual shift pattern, depending on study and participant requirements.
About you
You do not need previous clinical trials experience to apply. We are looking for someone with:
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
- Confidence using computers, databases and electronic systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience communicating professionally with patients, customers or colleagues
- A calm, compassionate and professional approach
- The ability to follow detailed processes and procedures accurately
- A proactive and reliable approach to work
- An interest in healthcare, research and medical innovation
- A genuine willingness to learn new clinical, technical and research skills
Previous experience in healthcare, patient coordination, clinical administration, ophthalmology, optometry or research would be advantageous, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in candidates from other organised and professional environments who can demonstrate the right aptitude, professionalism and willingness to learn.
Training and development
This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career within clinical research. You will receive appropriate internal and study-specific training and develop knowledge and experience in areas such as:
- Good Clinical Practice
- Clinical trial administration and coordination
- Participant recruitment and coordination
- Electronic Data Capture systems
- Research data management
- Ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing
- Sample handling and processing
- Study documentation and compliance
- Sponsor and monitor support
- Research and scientific support
As you progress, there may also be opportunities to undertake further training in clinical procedures, including phlebotomy and cannulation where appropriate, subject to training, competency assessment and the requirements of the role.
If you're currently working in an administrative, healthcare or patient coordinator role and are looking for an exciting opportunity to move into clinical trials, we'd love to hear from you.
