We are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Theatre Manager to join our Theatre Departments across 2x hospitals and support the operational and clinical leadership of our operating theatres. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient‑centred care while supporting the day‑to‑day management of theatre services, staffing, governance, and clinical excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered healthcare professional with strong leadership experience in an operating theatre environment and a passion for delivering outstanding patient care. The majority of your time will be spent in the Chelmsford site and then you will cross over to the “sister” hospital on occasion as the Theatre Manager and yourself will oversee the dual sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Theatre Manager and provide leadership support across theatre services
  • Lead and support theatre teams to deliver safe, high‑quality patient care
  • Oversee staffing rotas, workforce planning, and effective resource utilisation
  • Support clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Build positive working relationships with consultants, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Support staff development, appraisals, recruitment, and training
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and best practice guidelines

About You

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration
  • Strong clinical background in acute surgical care
  • Previous leadership experience within an operating theatre environment
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • Financial awareness and ability to manage resources effectively
  • Flexible and adaptable approach with participation in the on‑call rota
  • Passionate about patient safety, clinical excellence, and team development
  • Desirable: Teaching & Assessing qualification, Immediate Life Support qualification
