The Senior Mammographer will play a pivotal role in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, ensuring the highest quality care and support for our patients. This position requires expertise in mammography examinations, leadership capabilities, and compliance with all relevant medical regulations and standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mammography Imaging:
Perform mammography examinations with precision and proficiency using state-of- the-art imaging equipment.
Ensure image quality and accuracy for early detection of breast abnormalities.
Create a compassionate and supportive environment for patients during mammography procedures.
Provide clear and reassuring communication to alleviate patient concerns.
Quality Control:
Establish and oversee stringent quality control processes to maintain consistent and accurate imaging results.
Conduct routine equipment quality checks and maintenance.
Radiation Safety:
Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols to safeguard patients and staff.
Monitor and minimize radiation exposure risks.
Documentation:
Maintain thorough and precise patient records, documenting procedures, findings, and patient histories.
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
Staff Training and Mentorship:
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior mammographers.
Foster skill development and knowledge enhancement among team members.
Equipment Maintenance:
Collaborate with the Breast Unit to oversee maintenance and calibration of mammography equipment.
Report equipment issues promptly for timely resolution.
Compliance:
Stay current with evolving regulations, guidelines, and best practices in mammography.
Ensure strict adherence to all applicable medical standards and protocols.
Educate patients on mammography procedures, including preparation, expectations, and the significance of breast health screenings.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Collaborate seamlessly with other healthcare professionals within the Breast Unit to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology or a related field,recognised by a UK academic institution.
HCPC registration as a mammographer.
Membership with the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR).
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Radiographer.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mammographer, demonstrating a history of excellence.
Proven expertise in conducting high-quality mammography examinations and producing accurate results.
Experience in mentoring and providing guidance to junior mammographers.
Preferred experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in mammography techniques, equipment operation, and quality assurance, compliant with UK standards.
Familiarity with advanced mammography imaging equipment and software.
Able to support ultrasound biopsy/ interventions, as well as stereotactic interventions.
Strong knowledge of radiation safety protocols and adherence to UK
guidelines.
Communication:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients and colleagues.
Clear and compassionate communication skills to effectively explain procedures and allay patient concerns, in line with UK patient care principles.
