The Pharmacy Department at King Edward VII’s Hospital provides a high‑quality, patient‑focused medicines service supporting consultant‑led elective, day‑case, and inpatient care. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the department ensures safe, effective, and compliant medicines management across surgical and clinical services. With a strong emphasis on governance, clinical support, and continuous improvement, the pharmacy team plays a key role in delivering personalised care within a premium private healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities- As an Outpatient pharmacist you’ll be responsible for ensuring and partaking in all medicines management stages for the optimisation of patient care and involvement in broader pharmacy governance assurances.
- On a daily basis provide a safe and effective medicines management service to all patients, staff, consultants and customers.
- Work within the relevant SOPs including the relevant health and safety and COSHH procedures and within own limits of responsibility/competency.
- Provide pharmaceutical care to patients at the hospital including ward and CCU rounds as per requirements.
- Perform clinical checks of prescriptions, monitoring of treatments, antibiotic stewardship, ensuring therapeutic optimisation of prescribed treatment, carrying out interventions to improve treatment outcomes and to minimise harm, involving patients in their care allowing them to share decisions and/or be aware of pharmacist interventions.
- Prescribe medications within own field of practice as part of medicines reconciliation and pharmacist interventions, ensuring to document and liaise with the consultant of significant interventions.
- Act as the responsible pharmacist supervising the outpatient pharmacy dispensary, dispensing and supplying of medications.
- Ensure accurate and timely release of medicines takes place with accurate charging.
- Ensure loss is minimised and revenue opportunities are maximised for medications.
- Assist with stock procurement and general maintenance of stock.
- Participate in and ensure good general house‑keeping to maintain safe processes within the dispensary.
- Sustain medicines management system in line with all current medicines legislation and best practice.
- Provide medicines information to medical and nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals and patients.
- Support the development and renewal of hospital policies, procedures, attend and report into MDT meetings.
- Work according to the departmental SOPs and procedures.
- Carry out action points delegated by hospital committees or line manager, meeting deadlines.
- Participate in regular clinical audit and departmental meetings.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives whilst ensuring cost effectiveness for the department around medicines management systems and processes.
- Train technicians, staff, work‑experience students who require pharmacist supervision.
- Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Evidence of CPD.
