How you’ll help us make health happen: We are recruiting for a Superintendent Radiographer specialising in general X-ray and CT to lead the delivery and operations of a high-quality Imaging Department. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred imaging services, while driving continuous improvement and supporting departmental strategy. Working closely with the Imaging Service Manager and MRI Superintendent Radiographer, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day operations, developing staff, and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day running of the General Imaging and CT services; Lead, develop and support a multidisciplinary radiography team; Ensure delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-focused imaging services; Deputise for the Imaging Manager when required; Contribute to workforce and resource planning.
  • Clinical Excellence & Quality: Maintain high standards of clinical imaging practice across the department; Develop and maintain imaging protocols and standard operating procedures; Oversee audits and drive continuous quality improvement initiatives; Investigate incidents and support governance processes.
  • Radiation Protection (RPS Duties): Act as Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) ensuring compliance with IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017; Monitor radiation safety, investigations, and audit activity; Manage dosimetry processes and liaise with radiation protection advisors; Ensure adherence to local rules, safety procedures, and controlled area requirements.
  • Team Development: Mentor, train and support radiography staff; Promote CPD and create a strong learning culture; Act as a role model, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Strategic Contribution: Support the development and implementation of departmental strategies; Contribute to service improvements and new initiatives; Respond to clinical queries and support stakeholder engagement.

Key Skills / Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in X-ray and CT with some MRI experience (essential).
  • Strong understanding of IRR17, IR(ME)R 2017, and health & safety standards (essential).
  • Experience in quality assurance, audits, and clinical governance (essential).
  • Previous experience in a management role and/or leading a team (desirable).
