Temporary Maintenance Technician

Hourly pay rate: £23 (incl shift) Shift Pattern: 2 shifts - Monday to Friday, 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm Location: Wallsend

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance to keep machinery operating efficiently.
  • Assist with process setup and participate in SMED activities to reduce downtime.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operations and equipment availability.
  • Support and actively engage in continuous improvement initiatives, promoting best operational practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant legislation (Health & Safety, Quality, Environment, HSE, COSHH, ISO 14001, etc.).
  • Coordinate audits, review SOPs, and promote best practices in health, safety, and quality.
  • Contribute to project work as required and support other sites when needed.

Skills & Competencies

  • Qualifications: City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to set up and adjust machines and processes using SMED.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including basic PLC programming and fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience in assembling, dismantling, repairing, and inspecting metal parts, tools, and sub‑assemblies.
  • Practical experience with continuous improvement tools and working effectively within small manufacturing teams.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules and routine machine checks.
  • Strong understanding of HSE and quality policies with practical application.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record in implementing continuous improvement and best practice maintenance.
  • Ongoing temporary contract with strong potential for a permanent contract to be offered to the right candidate.
