Control Systems Design Engineer required to join a well‑established, growing engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke automation and control systems for FMCG, food & beverage, packaging, filling and wider process industries. Control Systems Design Engineer Role
You'll take ownership of electrical control panel and automation system design, producing high-quality documentation and supporting internal teams and customers.
Control Systems Design Engineer Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical schematics using CAD (AutoCAD Electrical, E-Plan, SEE, SolidWorks Electrical)
- Designing control systems: mains protection, 24VDC circuits, PLCs, I/O, sensors, motors, drives, safety circuits
- Interpreting URS documents and asking the right technical questions
- Specifying/configuring motors & drives (Induction, VFD, Servo)
- Writing/testing basic PLC & HMI programmes
- Designing safety circuits
- Creating BOMs, FDS, technical specs and construction files
- Updating installation/operation manuals
- Component research & supplier liaison
- Testing, commissioning, troubleshooting & customer support
- Occasional UK site visits
Control Systems Design Engineer Essential Requirements:
- Strong electrical/control systems background
- Electrical/Controls qualification (Apprenticeship, BTEC, ONC, HNC, HND, Degree)
- 8+ years industrial control panel/system design experience
- 1+ year PLC & HMI programming
- Highly proficient in electrical CAD software
- Able to design safety circuits and set up servo motors, drives & VFDs
- Good mechanical/electrical/pneumatic understanding
- Excellent accuracy, detail orientation and professionalism
- Warm, helpful personality - essential for the team culture

- Siemens/Allen-Bradley PLC editing, robotics/camera systems, mechanical engineering knowledge, machine-build experience, EX/CompEx/ATEX.
