Optical Design Engineer – SE London/Kent – Scientific Instruments
About the Company:
We are looking for a Design Engineer with significant optics and instrument development experience to join an established, expanding company in the Southeast London/ Kent area.
Responsibilities:
- Provide full technical support for existing optical products and manage enhancement projects.
- Lead optical design and development from concept through validation and production.
- Translate product requirements into technical specifications and testing methods.
- Maintain robust design control, risk assessment (DFMEA/DFM), and documentation.
- Act as a technical authority, guiding design decisions and cross-functional collaboration.
- Define and execute optical testing standards and analyse results to support development.
Requirements:
- Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in optical system design and product development.
- Strong understanding of illumination, interferometry, spectroscopy, and polarisation.
- Skilled in simulation software (e.g., Zemax, CodeV, LightTools).
- Proficient in DFM/DFA principles, tolerance analysis, and statistical performance evaluation.
- Solid knowledge of optical manufacturing methods and precision processes.
