About Us
At Reed Veterinary Surgery in Royston, we are more than just a clinic; we are a true part of the local community, and it means the world to us. We\’re so lucky to have built such a wonderful and loyal client base; some of them even travel considerable distances to see our team.
Our small animal practice was established by Rosemary Hobson in 2016. After an incredible 56 years in the profession, Rosemary has taken her well-deserved retirement. Reed Vets has joined the Kin Vet Community, a vet-led collective of 19 veterinary practices in Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Kent, and Southwest London. This provides many advantages, from a strong focus on providing collaborative support to our amazing clinicians at the clinic level to the valuable resources and connections within our wider veterinary community.

Our dedication to providing the highest standards of care means we constantly strive for improvement and champion continuous learning, actively participating in group-wide CPD and best practice initiatives.
Stefano originally joined us as a locum in 2024 and enjoyed being part of the team so much that he decided to come on board as our new Clinical Director. Stefano brings a wealth of experience and a passion for orthopaedics, surgery and teaching. He graduated from the University of Perugia in 1996 and ran his own practice in South Wales for many years before moving into locum work. Filipe, who graduated in 2018, enjoys being a GP vet, and Suzi, our long-term locum, works with us one day a week while also managing a farm with her husband.
We have a dedicated nursing team led by our Head Nurse, Jo, who joined us five years ago. Jo qualified in 2005 and gained experience in various roles, including working as a night RVN at a busy referral practice. Our RVN team will soon grow to four, with Jo and Mishelle welcoming our new RVN in May, alongside Georgina, who is just about to finish her training and qualify. Holly is doing great in her first year of nurse training, and our wonderful reception team is always ready to provide a warm and friendly welcome to our clients, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
We also benefit from the additional support of peripatetic surgeons, including Dr David Williams, Associate Lecturer in Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Cambridge; Fabrizio Tucciarone of Mobile Vet Referral, who assists with internal medicine and advanced ultrasound cases. For orthopaedic referrals, we primarily use East of England Veterinary Specialists; however, we can also manage cases in-house thanks to Sam of Allwork Orthopaedics.We have excellent relationships with other nearby referral centres, including East Of England Veterinary Specialists, Granta Veterinary Specialists, Cambridge Vet School, Dick White Referrals, and Davies Veterinary Specialists.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, confident, and compassionate GP vet who is passionate about delivering great care to our patients and building lasting relationships with their team and our clients. You’ll enjoy clinical autonomy and benefit from being part of a larger, well-established network/team. Career growth is encouraged, and pursuing interests and certificates is fully supported.
We are flexible with the rota; whether you prefer a 4-day week or 5 shorter days, we’re happy to discuss how we can make things work for both you and us. Our vets work just 1:4 Saturday mornings (9 am to 1 pm), and there are no out-of-hours, so your nights, weekends and bank holidays are free to enjoy. Our OOH is handled by Swayne & Partners in Bury St. Edmonds, and any inpatients are transferred to Mercer & Hughes in Saffron Walden. Both practices are part of the Kin Vet Community, providing excellent continuity of care for our patients.
Outside of Work
We’re a friendly team that genuinely enjoys spending time together, and it doesn\’t stop when we leave the practice. Most of us have dogs, so park and countryside walks are a regular thing, and so are those spur-of-the-moment pub visits! Plus, being where we are, it\’s easy to play tourist as we head to Cambridge for a spot of shopping and a relaxing punt on the River Cam.
Royston is a charming market town in the beautiful countrysideof northern Hertfordshire, near the Cambridgeshire border. Not only can you enjoy a fantastic view from the practice, but there are also plenty of scenic walks and cycle routes to explore locally. Royston is well-connected by road, located at the junction of the A505 and A10, providing easy access to the A1(M) and M11. It also has excellent direct train links, with Cambridge just 20 minutes away and London King\’s Cross reachable in under 40 minutes.
