Whilst you will be predominately based at our Northfleet Mill, you will spend your 1st year with IPS Training located in Rochester.

What you’ll do:

  • Learn by doing: Observe, learn and understand a wide range of technical skills under the guidance of Technicians and Engineers.
  • Level up fast: Attend workshops and problem-solving sessions; seize as many learning opportunities as possible.

  • Put safety first: Embrace health & safety, quality control and good housekeeping.

  • Own your progress: Complete tests and evaluations, attend meetings, and offer ideas to improve how we work.
  • Develop digital manufacturing capability: Engage with digital tools and systems used in modern manufacturing, such as data analytics, automation, and connected worker platforms.
  • Participate in training and hands-on activities designed to build your digital skills, preparing you to operate and innovate in a highly digitized production environment.

As a member of the Northfleet Mill Reliability Workshop Team, you will have exposure to a wide range of engineering technology, from heavy industrial machines in the Papermill through to the latest robotic technology in our Packaging assets. You will be involved in the following:

  • Scheduled maintenance tasks across all areas of the site including:
  • Steam Generation
  • Water Treatment Systems
  • Paper Manufacturing Equipment
  • Converting Equipment
  • Packaging
  • Robot Palletising
  • Product Distribution
  • Manufacturing components and parts, using workshop equipment to include:
    • Lathes
    • Milling Machines
    • Pillar Drills
    • Grinders
    • Fabrication and welding
  • Electrical and Instrumentation, work to include:
    • Installation
    • Fault Finding, Diagnosis and repair
    • Preventative Maintenance
    • Calibration
    • Improvement Project Work, from design to delivery
    • Thermographic Surveys
  • Mechanical work to include:
    • Bench fitting
    • Pump, gearbox, valve repairs
    • Fault Finding, Diagnosis and repair
    • Preventative Maintenance

    Your training & qualifications you will receive:

    • Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma (BTEC Pearson)
    • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (EAL)
    • Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Standard (Apprenticeship Certificate)
    • HNC in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

    Entry requirements:

    • Minimum 4 GCSEs (9–5/A*–C) including English, Mathematics, Science and Design Technology

    Where this can take you:

    Complete the apprenticeship and you could progress to a higher-level apprenticeship, degree and full-time employment. You’ll build interchangeable skills and an in-depth understanding of manufacturing whilst opening doors to Technician or Engineer roles.
