Our client in Bristol, seeking a Quantity Surveyor – ( Housing Response and Maintenance ) continues to have a fantastic year full of growth and opportunity company wide. They are excited to announce they have secured another long-term contract enabling them to open a new Response/ Maintenance Business, based in their already established Bristol Business.
- They have been an established and leading property services company for over 75 years, based across England and Wales, in over 18 locations and 32 Business Units, so very well established.
- Their main customer base is Social Housing and Council/ Local authority, Housing Associations and this is a reactive maintenance contract and the housing stock is very concentrated within Bristol area therefore not much widespread travel.
- The main criteria is someone with reactive maintenance experience – having managed the commercial aspects of this type of contract before. SOR (schedule of rate contract) experience and knowledge is a big tick.
Salary: £54,900 inc car allowance, (6.5K) plus a private mileage scheme and fuel card, pension, healthcare, life insurance + profit share (last year 12%).
Of course, this type of experience working on a social housing contract is the goal but they can consider other transferrable industries (if you have response/reactive experience) for example retail (supermarket frameworks) even telecoms or rail – so used to managing high volumes of low value works.

The Quantity Surveyor role:
- Prepare budget cost value reconciliations, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the beginning.
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity targets and contract milestones are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives.
- Build strong client and supplier relations, to ensure any variations and the progress of contracts are discussed and resolved proactively.
- Take purchase, credit and debtor responsibility using COINS to achieve expected cash flow.
- Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance exceptional to budget, value, progress, quality, and safety).
- Produce monthly contract valuations.

- Proven experience in a similar quantity surveying/project surveying role – experience of working on reactive maintenance contracts, and/or with schedule of rates (SORs) would be particularly advantageous.
- Experience of successfully managing a value of works up to £3 million.
- A key eye for identifying areas to save money, reduce costs and maximise value.
