Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Epsom office. They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who can share in this growth ethos. Honesty, integrity and teamwork will be at the heart of what they do. They are ideally looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience dealing with and working with direct labour teams, including time sheets. A background in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, civils, or new builds in terms of QS would be transferable, along with tendering, estimating and refurbishments.

They are looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused Quantity Surveyor to join their dedicated commercial and operational team, who specialise in painting and decorating and associated planned refurbishment works to the public, private, residential and educational sectors. Experience dealing with direct labour teams, time sheets, and related activities is highly valued.

They have been an established and leading property services company for over 75 years, based across England and Wales, in over 18 locations and 32 Business Units. The main customer base will be social housing, council/local authority, and housing associations; highlight any experience in these sectors on your CV and in summaries where relevant.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will actively tender, estimate and measure onsite and liaise with direct labour at the client. We offer a variety of works including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious clients within the public and residential sectors, as well as services covering retirement living, commercial and education sectors. Specifically, you will:

  • Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks
  • Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset
  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible
  • Build strong client and supplier relations to discuss variations and progress of contracts and seek mutual solutions
  • Complete and analyse weekly site reporting with adequate cost information (including labour rates, budgets, value, progress, quality, and safety)

You will be inquisitive, organised, and honest, and a genuine people person who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and colleagues, fostering a collaborative working environment and long-term relationships. Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role, with commercial management of projects from tender through to final account is essential. Experience managing a value of works up to £3 million annually is also required. An entrepreneurial spirit with an eye for identifying opportunities, negotiation and value gains; described as commercial, analytical and accurate.
