Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Maidstone Kent office (located between Maidstone and Tonbridge). They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who can share in this growth ethos. Honesty, integrity and teamwork will be at the heart of what they do.
Ideally, they are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience dealing with direct labour teams, time sheets, etc. A background in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, civils, or new builds in terms of QS would be transferable, along with tendering, estimating and refurbishments. Direct labour experience is a big tick.
Salary: £66,538 inc car allowance (£6,700) plus fuel card. Profit share last year 14%, private health, pension, life, etc. They are looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused Quantity Surveyor to join their dedicated commercial and operational team, which specialises in painting and decorating and associated planned refurbishment works to the public, private, residential and educational sectors. A painting background is not essential.
The company has been established and leading in property services for over 75 years, across England and Wales, in over 18 locations and 32 business units. They are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to work as part of their painting team. The main customer base will be social housing and council/local authority, housing associations; experience in these sectors or related projects is beneficial.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will actively tender, estimate and measure onsite and liaise with direct labour at the client. A variety of works including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious clients within the public and residential sectors, plus services covering retirement living, commercial and education sectors, are available. Specifically, you will:
- Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks.
- Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
- Build strong client and supplier relations to discuss variations and progress of contracts and seek mutual solutions.
- Complete and analyse weekly site reporting, ensuring it includes adequate cost information (including labour rates, budgets, value, progress, quality and safety).
You will be inquisitive, organised, and honest, and a genuine people person who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and colleagues. You will foster a collaborative working environment and build long-term relationships.
Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role, with commercial management from tender through to final account. Experience managing a value of works up to £3 million annually. Entrepreneurial spirit with an eye for identifying business opportunities and negotiating better gains. You are commercial, analytical, and accurate in your approach.
