What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support the delivery of high‑quality, competitive tenders by producing accurate take‑offs, Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and pricing schedules.
  • Assist in building detailed estimates from first principles using CANDY software (or similar).
  • Work alongside experienced estimators to develop commercially sound and innovative tender solutions.
  • Support the preparation of subcontract enquiry packages and procurement schedules for materials and plant.
  • Review tender documentation to ensure full understanding and compliance with all requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of bid quality, sharing best practice and new ideas.
  • Build strong working relationships across the business and with external supply chain partners.
  • Assist with the preparation of clear and structured estimating handover packs for successful projects.

What You’ll Need

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong IT capability across Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as CANDY (or similar).
  • Experience in producing take‑offs and BoQ using SMM7 or equivalent methods.
  • Solid technical understanding of construction methods, materials and commercial principles.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality under pressure.
  • A good understanding of the construction tendering process.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and positive approach.
  • Self‑motivated, with the drive to learn, develop and take initiative.
  • A clear ambition to progress within estimating and preconstruction.
  • Around 2–3 years’ experience in a construction, engineering or commercial environment, including exposure to tendering or preconstruction.
  • Experience within civils, groundworks or reinforced concrete (FRC) is advantageous.
  • On‑site construction experience (desirable).
  • Working towards (or interested in) professional membership such as RICS, CIOB, ICE or similar is beneficial.
