Kilburn & Strode is a top European intellectual property firm, headquartered in London, with offices in the US and the Netherlands. For more than 100 years, we have been trusted to provide strategic IP advice and navigate the complex world of IP for an impressive roster of clients of all sizes, including leading brands and some of the world’s most impressive innovators.

The Risk & Compliance Manager is a newly established role, taking responsibility for creating and implementing our firm approach to client onboarding together with managing risk, GDPR, regulatory and compliance obligations. The primary focus for this role will be based in our London team and operations but there will be the need to ensure international compliance for our US and Netherlands operations.

Key aspects of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the firm’s regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and managing relationships with our external regulatory bodies.
  • Reviewing and updating processes for client onboarding including AML, conflicts and due diligence.
  • Handling our professional indemnity insurance – maintaining detailed records, ensuring compliance as well as acting as the main point of contact.
  • Maintaining our risk register – ensuring mitigations are in place and being delivered on as well as assessing any new risks.
  • Establishing and managing standardised templates, systems, terms of business and processes.
  • Designing and delivering risk and compliance training for all employees.

As an experienced Risk & Compliance specialist, you will thrive in a role that requires both a grass roots strategic approach and operational delivery. In this standalone role, you will have confidence in analysing what best practice processes are required and deliver these across the business. You will be comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders across different business areas, and take a consultative approach to relationship building.

We expect this to be a busy and autonomous role which offers plenty of scope and the opportunity to establish yourself in the firm as an expert. You will have gained your experience in a professional services or law firm environment and have a strong working understanding and knowledge of risk, compliance, client onboarding and AML regulations and requirements.

We are keen to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, happy to work directly with partners as well as presenting to a wide audience as required.
  • The ability to work with teams across various locations and time zones.
  • Strong multitasking skills and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations requiring adherence to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to quickly develop a strong working knowledge of the firm, its services, and its clients and their industry sectors.
  • Are highly analytical, organized and detail oriented.
  • Independently driven, resourceful, proactive and self-motivated with a 'make it happen' mindset and excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Our commitment: Fiercely committed to diversity and social responsibility, we created the Innovation for All Foundation, which donates 1% of our annual profits to up-and-coming innovators. We were one of the first signatories of the IP Inclusive Charter, making a public commitment to supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the IP professions. Kilburn & Strode is one of just a handful of leading IP firms in Europe ranked in the top tier for both trade mark and patent prosecution in each of the Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, Managing IP, IAM Patent, and the World Trade Mark Review listings.
