As a Front Line Supervisor – Equipment Maintenance, you will play a significant part in the success of Kiewit Mining Group by directly supervising day-to-day equipment maintenance operations, including direct supervision of crews of up to 20 personnel. We rely on our Front Line Supervisors to set the highest expectations among their crew for safety, quality, schedule, performance, and team development. A strong technical and practical background in maintaining and repairing surface mining and heavy civil equipment is required. Excellent communication skills, team development, and the ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position.

Possible locations include: Gillette, WY; Soda Springs, ID; Tok, AK; various.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for direct supervision of an assigned crew of maintenance technicians including mechanics, welders, electricians, etc.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and development of craft personnel to repair and maintain our fleet of heavy equipment, establish daily job assignments, authorize time off requests, complete performance assessments, and initiate disciplinary action and performance improvements.
  • Develop and maintain open communication with crews, field engineers/coordinators, Maintenance, Safety, and Quality.
  • Assist in preparing work plans and scheduling by determining manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
  • Examine and inspect shop and field conditions, troubleshoot problems, correct inaccuracies, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Monitor and adhere to established budgetary guidelines for job and ensure that cost control measures are being followed.
  • Monitor job safety and provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure that technical specifications are being met.
  • Assist with developing entire job schedules, including 90-day schedules and three-week schedules.
  • Monitor job schedule and coordinate work with contractors and deliveries with suppliers, ensuring inspections are scheduled appropriately.
  • Advise peers and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc., and assist in resolving such issues as required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a Front Line Supervisor (Maintenance Shift Superintendent, General Foreman, etc.) in either Coal or Metal/Non-Metal mines or heavy civil construction operations.
  • Familiar with MSHA operations.
  • Must be a self-starter and highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help ensure nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to work shift work including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel on short notice.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to job sites.

Compensation

Base Compensation: $100,000/yr - $120,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
