We're looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join our water operations team based in Okehampton.
Location: Okehampton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll play a vital role in keeping our water and wastewater facilities running safely and efficiently. You'll be working with pumps, valves, pipework, and treatment machinery, ensuring everything operates smoothly and meets the highest industry standards. This is a hands-on role where your technical skills and problem-solving abilities will make a real difference to our operations and the communities we serve.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be working within the water operations team, supporting them in maintaining and repairing essential water treatment equipment. Your day to day will include:
- Installing and maintaining mechanical equipment including pumps, valves, pipework, and treatment machinery
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to emergency breakdowns as part of the callout rota
- Diagnosing mechanical faults and replacing worn components to minimise downtime
- Working safely in accordance with health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems
- Completing accurate maintenance records and communicating equipment status to the wider team
What are we looking for?
This role of Mechanical Fitter is great for someone who:
- Holds a mechanical fitting or engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, or similar)
- Brings experience within water, wastewater, utilities, or industrial environments
- Demonstrates confidence working with rotating equipment and interpreting technical drawings
- Applies strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with a practical approach
- Holds a full driving licence
