We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead the delivery and assurance of highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programmes. You'll act as a technical authority, owning design outputs from concept through to implementation, driving right‑first‑time delivery, and ensuring solutions are compliant, integrated and future‑ready. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in delivering ITS, communications and smart infrastructure systems aligned to National Highways standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technology design packages across ITS, communications and power systems.
  • Take ownership of design outputs from concept through to implementation.
  • Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems teams.
  • Lead design assurance, reviews and compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Communicate technical risks and solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • Act as technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks, and gateway approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards, managing technical risk.
  • Act as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support programme delivery through reporting on progress, risk and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement, digital engineering and BIM adoption.
  • Lead input into bids and develop innovative, compliant and competitive solutions.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, building team capability and a high‑performance culture.

Qualifications

  • HNC / Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering, or equivalent relevant field.
  • Experienced highways technology engineer with strong ITS expertise.
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities.
  • Strong knowledge of National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB) and governance frameworks.
