We're looking for an Assistant Engineer to join our Technology Design team, supporting the delivery of highways technology solutions across a range of infrastructure projects. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to develop design outputs, build your technical capability, and gain exposure to systems such as ITS, communications and digital infrastructure. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a supportive, multidisciplinary team, working on nationally significant projects.

Are you…

  • Degree-qualified (or working towards) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering?
  • An early‑career engineer with some practical experience (placement, internship or similar)?
  • Interested in highways technology, ITS or digital infrastructure?

Do you…

  • Have awareness of ITS systems and/or communications networks?
  • Understand design standards (e.g. DMRB) or use CAD/design tools?
  • Have exposure to infrastructure or highways environments?
  • Communicate well and enjoy working collaboratively in a team?

What will you be responsible for?

  • Supporting the development of technology design packages (ITS, communications, power infrastructure)
  • Producing drawings, specifications and technical documentation
  • Assisting with design assurance processes, reviews and compliance with standards (e.g. DMRB, National Highways)
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, mechanical)
  • Gaining experience across ITS, communications networks and emerging smart infrastructure systems
  • Supporting project coordination, meetings, reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Contributing to continuous improvement, technical development and bid/tender support

What are we looking for?

  • Have a degree (or are working towards) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering
  • Have gained some engineering experience (placement, internship or early‑career role)
  • Have an interest in highways technology, ITS or digital infrastructure
  • Have awareness of ITS systems (CCTV, VMS, detection, communications networks)
  • Have knowledge of design standards (e.g. DMRB, National Highways)
  • Have experience using CAD or engineering design tools
  • Have exposure to infrastructure or highways projects
  • Are working towards professional membership (IET / ICE)
  • Are able to meet BPSS/security requirements
