We\’re looking for a Road Safety Officer to join our Transportation team based in Brixworth. Location : Brixworth, Northamptonshire

Hours : 37.5 hours per week – some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

What will you be responsible for?

As Road Safety Officer, you\’ll be working within the Road Safety team, supporting them in reducing road traffic collisions occurring in North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire by providing insight and potential solutions for locations that are encountering high levels of injury collisions. Collecting traffic data through the deployment of data boxes at key locations on the highway network, overseeing the VAS (Vehicle activated signs) self-purchase scheme on behalf of the client, aiding the delivery of road safety educational interventions aimed at a series of different road user groups and ages.

Your day to day will include:

  • Examining all collision cluster sites, at both a theoretical and physical level, developing engineering interventions, reducing the frequency of collisions and / or reducing the severity of injuries resulting from such collisions, utilising technology such as temporary vehicle activated signs, ascertaining the effectiveness of such a device, in a certain area, at reducing the overall speed of traffic in that area
  • Managing projects in relation to speed reduction measures, for example the temporary and permanent vehicle activated signs and variable message signs, delivering evidence led and added value road safety initiatives in collaboration with partners, stakeholders and local communities as well as β€˜at no cost\’ facilitation opportunities for third party delivery
  • Forging links and building partnerships with internal and external organisations, promoting and facilitating road safety and sustainable travel, maintaining professional relationships with partners, other local authorities and stakeholders seeking and sharing best practice
  • Deploying traffic survey boxes on the highway network
  • Supporting the delivery of road safety educational interventions

  • You have strong organisational and project management skills, are well versed in analysing and addressing complex issues, demonstrate effective IT skills and experienced in processing and interpreting detailed information
  • Enjoy dealing with members of the public, comfortable delivering public presentations to a range of diverse audiences
  • Drive and have a full licence for travelling to different locations, sound relevant knowledge of highway law and the highway code
