We\’re searching for our next astronomer and science communicator
We are expanding our team and are looking to recruit a full-time (37.5 hours) Astronomer and Science Communicator to deliver exceptional experiences and develop new programs.
Location: Kielder, Northumberland, England (applicants must have a right to work in the UK)
Salary: £31,878.10 p/a + additional benefits, allowances, and bonus
Closing date: Midnight 16th August 2025
Must have: A driving license, access to own transport, a passion for astronomy, and the right to work in the UK.
About us
Kielder Observatory is an astronomical public outreach charity located in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, delivering unique experiences that transform people\’s lives. We host thousands of events annually, including a significant school program and activities in various venues.
Who are we looking for?
A passionate presenter with an interest in and knowledge of astronomy. We welcome applications from everyone, valuing diverse experiences. Formal qualifications are not essential, but the ability to communicate enthusiasm and knowledge to wide audiences is crucial.
What will you be doing?
As part of our Science Communication team, you will deliver events to the public in various settings, including the observatory site, schools, and online platforms. You will take part in observatory tours, star gazing, talks, and other activities requiring great public speaking and communication skills.
You will also have the opportunity to work on content production, including written content, video production, podcasts, and social media materials. We encourage continuing professional development with a yearly budget and allocated time.
