Role Description

The Nursery Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at our Guildford nursery. This role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the nursery, including overseeing room leaders and practitioners, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, and maintaining a positive, child-centered environment. The Nursery Manager ensures that safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory requirements are consistently met, and that policies and procedures are effectively implemented. Daily tasks include managing nursery operations, supporting curriculum planning and delivery, monitoring children’s progress, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and care. The Nursery Manager also handles parent communication, admissions and occupancy, basic budgeting oversight, and supports staff recruitment, supervision, and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Strong safeguarding competencies, including Safeguarding and Safeguarding Children, with up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Experience in Nursery and Nursery Management, including running day-to-day operations and leading nursery teams.
  • Excellent Communication skills for working with children, colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • Recognized early years qualification (e.g., Level 3 or above in Early Years / Childcare) or equivalent, and knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Proven ability to provide inclusive, child-centered care and learning, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience in staff supervision, performance management, and supporting professional development.
  • Competence in basic IT and administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Paediatric first aid certification and previous experience in a similar leadership role in an early years setting are highly beneficial.
