Be a part of an energetic and vibrant team who are driven by the desire to improve the lives of people living with kidney disease. Our vision is the day when everyone lives free from kidney disease.
You will be part of the Programmes Team and specifically, the Peer Educator Programmes Team. The project you will help coordinate is being delivered in partnership with NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight and the SPOT CKD project. Other collaborators include the local NHS, primary care, kidney doctors, and other health care professionals as well as, importantly, community and faith stakeholders.
Aims of the project
As part of the SPOT CKD project (Screening, Prevention, Outreach and Treatment of CKD for Health Equity project) in Hampshire and Isle of Wight, the project team have commissioned Kidney Research UK to deliver a peer education intervention in Southampton.
This pilot project will implement a peerâled education approach to support screening and prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to improve early CKD diagnosis and enable disease prevention. This includes encouraging and increasing monitoring through uptake of the uACR test â which effectively detects a type of protein in the urine indicating possible kidney damage. Peer Educator approaches enhance intervention uptake particularly in âpoorly servedâ groups which may not be served by other population health mechanisms.
Responsibilities
Working closely with the peer education programme lead and the peer educator manager, the peer educator coordinator will recruit, train, support and coordinate the volunteersâ (called peer educators) activities as part of the intervention of the project. This will include, but not limited to, leading the team in raising awareness and facilitate early detection and reduction of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in underârepresented communities who are at most risk of CKD; augmented by practical, culturally congruent ways to mitigate those risks.
