The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is primarily responsible for obtaining detailed medical histories, comprehensive physical exams, and developing a treatment plan of care with considerable independence under the general medical direction of a physician. The NP/PA will provide competent, age-appropriate care in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Performing basic physical assessments using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.
  • Coordinating medical plan of care.
  • Securing and evaluating medical health and developmental history of patients.
  • Performing assessments and evaluation of patients via Telemedicine, as applicable.
  • Collaborating with the managing physicians to develop, implement, and enforce any and all patient care clinical pathways to ensure consistency in the treatment of patients.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the facility.
  • Facilitating patient flow, communication, and problem resolution.
  • Assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Serving as a resource person and role model for staff by demonstrating professionalism and leading by example.
  • Encouraging participation in facilities activities.
  • Writing and executing orders in accordance with legal, ethical, state, and facility standards.
  • Administering medications and treatments safely and as prescribed.
  • Identifying community health resources.
  • Performing necessary follow-ups with patients on lab and x-ray results as directed by the physician.
  • Consulting the physician in a timely manner regarding patients showing signs of instability or those who may require admission to the hospital.
  • Participating in mandatory training and attending staff meetings.
  • Reporting all parent/patient complaints to the manager in a timely manner to allow for appropriate action to be taken.
  • Conveying respect of patient's rights and treating all patients with dignity.
  • Practicing and promoting positive customer/peer relations while fostering a learning work environment.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment (i.e. ensuring that the work area and staff lounge are tidy and equipment and utensils are put away at the end of each shift).
  • Functioning as a supportive team member.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to be in-clinic to perform all job duties, unless otherwise agreed upon by employee and department manager (i.e. Telemedicine).
  • Ability to perform moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, and performing CPR.
  • Ability to lift work materials, equipment, and patients. Occupational lifting may be heavy and awkward (over 50lbs).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and bedside manner.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Skill in exercising high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings obtained by history, physical screening, and behavioral assessments.
  • Ability to execute diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: suturing, I&D of abscesses, foreign body removal, and specimen collections.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Graduation from an approved Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program.
  • Valid license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in the state of Virginia.
  • Valid DEA License (if applicable).
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience in pediatrics (preferred).
  • Emergency/Urgent Care experience (preferred).

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday-Friday: 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
