We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist organisation for an Equine Groom & Animal Care professional to take primary responsibility for equine, farm and small animal care. This is a hands-on role working within a therapeutic and educational environment that supports children, young people and adults. The successful candidate will report day-to-day to the Land Support Manager and will play a key role in ensuring excellent standards of animal welfare, land management and safe operations across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • All Equine and Animal Care (routine/training) provided including stable maintenance, enclosure repairs/risk management/stock control etc.
  • This role holds responsibility for equine and animal care and welfare, so you must have experience working with horses to include but not limited to: mucking out, leading, grooming, hoof picking, muck picking, rugging and fitting fly masks depending on seasons, general yard management and maintenance.
  • Regular Animal welfare health check and monitoring, administrating medication when required or seeking line management and or professional veterinary advice where directed and follow up.
  • Land and Buildings support and maintenance for Equine and Animal Zones including yard and barn management.
  • Animal enrichment projects.
  • Support for Land Projects as and where authorised and agreed. Tool work (training provided) such as strimmer/hedge cutter and hand tools.
  • Will need to be flexible for any emergency animal/land requirements.
  • Land support across entire site where directed and all animals care duties completed on any one day.

Requirements

  • Qualifications in Equine care/management minimum level 3.
  • Proven experience working in a yard/equine groom role, for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Equine knowledge, confidence and experience, understanding varying horse behaviour including herd dynamics.
  • Confidence on phone calls to manage suppliers and arranging vet visits.
  • Full driving license and access to vehicle for small animal vet visit requirements.
  • Confidence and previous experience working with other animals and willingness to train to handle other small animals including reptiles and invertebrate care.
  • General equine knowledge to share with colleagues and YP as part of the education we provide in services.
  • A definitive continued interest in progressing an Equine career is required for this role along with natural horsemanship working with our equines.
  • Proven experience of sole responsibility for a horse and or lone working/accountability in a yard.

Personal Development & Professional Expectations

  • Ensure you update your 4-6 weekly PDP regularly in a timely fashion for management review and attend your Personal Development Plan (PDP) meeting with your line manager.
  • Ensure that you attend team meetings as and when required which may be outside of your normal working hours to ensure that animal care and welfare is not impacted.
  • Be flexible to attend evening or weekend training that are outside of your contracted hours on occasion for CPD as required for your development within your role.
  • You must be prepared if undertaking any professional training or personal development that the very best intentions and ability is given to ensure passing or attaining certification.
  • Ensure that all Sickness or Absence is reported according to Company Procedures.
  • Ensuring that Holiday Requests are processed according to Company Procedures.

Working Days/Hours

  • Tuesday to Saturday.
  • 08:45am - 5:15pm (40 Hour Week).
  • Saturday - Lone Working.
