Job Purpose: Supported by Kibble's Night Service Managers, you will work across Kibble's Residential and Community Based Services. You will have responsibility for the safety and well-being of our young people throughout the night. This can be a vulnerable time for our young people, and you will need the skills and abilities to support them through times of crisis.

Main Duties:

  • The direct work with children and young people follows a general pattern tailored to the particular needs and requirements for each individual, involving three main areas:
  1. Assessment Phase of the Child or Young Person: Reading relevant reports and records, identifying any particular medical, social, religious, or dietary requirements, ensuring next of kin are aware of the establishment's location and contact details, and ensuring the child or young person understands the reason for admission and the rules and regulations of the school.
  2. The Care Programme: The Child and Youth Care Worker will have direct responsibility for the care and development of a number of children and young people, liaising with all relevant members of the multi-disciplinary team and the area team social worker to ensure mutual understanding of social and educational targets.
  3. Recording and Reporting: The Child and Youth Care Worker is responsible for ensuring that the placement plan is recorded in the required format and that necessary reports are provided within required timescales.

Worker Profile: The Child and Youth Care Worker will be able to:

  • Relate to children and young people in a way that promotes their trust and involvement.
  • Respond positively and calmly to physical and verbal aggression.
  • Understand the dynamics of relationships between young people and take action to stop bullying and prevent isolation.
  • Establish relationships where incidents of abuse can be revealed.
  • Work unsupervised and on own initiative.
  • Communicate clearly and precisely both orally and in writing.
  • Co-work with representatives from other agencies.
  • Display knowledge of relevant legislation and understand human growth and development.
  • Manage and motivate self in forming and sustaining relationships.

What qualification and experience are we looking for?

  • HNC in Social Care, SVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent, or the ability to undertake these qualifications.
  • Experience of working with young people or providing care/support to vulnerable people is essential.
  • Experience within the social care sector and residential childcare is desirable.
  • Possess a full driving licence and be willing to drive school transport.
