As our Employee Relations Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing ER across the business. You'll provide expert advice, support, and coaching to line managers, ensuring fair and consistent handling of ER cases while promoting a high-performing and engaged workforce. You’ll take responsibility for reviewing, updating, and creating HR policies to ensure alignment with best practices, regulatory requirements, and business needs. You will partner with our L&D team to design and deliver training content that enhances line managers’ capability. Most importantly, you will take a proactive and commercially minded approach to developing our people.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a range of ER cases of varying complexity including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, absence management, and other people‑related issues.
  • Providing expert guidance and coaching to line managers on handling ER matters, ensuring fair and consistent decision‑making.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor and coach to line managers, building capability in handling people issues effectively and confidently.
  • Working with the L&D function and the wider People Team to design and deliver training content on ER topics, ensuring managers are equipped to handle people‑related challenges.
  • Review, update, and develop HR policies and procedures to ensure alignment with company culture, employment law, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Conducting investigations, drafting case documentation, and supporting hearings and appeals where necessary.
  • Using approaches to resolve ER cases informally where possible prior to escalation to any formal process (e.g., early intervention, mediation and facilitated discussions, constructive feedback, engagement and wellbeing initiatives, relationship development).
  • Ensuring ER processes comply with UK employment law, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Liaising with the Head of HR Operations & Talent on approach to complex cases, appeals and where external employment law advice is required.
  • Mentoring, coaching and supporting HR Coordinators, enhancing their knowledge of ER case management and employment law.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in an Employee Relations role within a regulated environment.
  • Experience confidently and independently managing complex ER cases from start to end.
  • Experience reviewing, updating and creating HR policies in line with best practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience designing and delivering ER‑related training content.
  • Excellent coaching and influence skills, working with both new and experienced managers.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a pragmatic, commercial approach to ER issues.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving business.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and its application.
