We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join a global IT services company based in Birmingham. You will be providing advanced technical support and leadership across network operations. This role is ideal for a highly skilled network engineer, with expertise across Palo Alto and Cloud networks. Ideally, an individual who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about delivering resilient, secure, and high-performing network services.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex network-related issues.
- Provide Level 3/SME support across networking services and infrastructure.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for major incidents, outages, and performance degradation.
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, and cloud networking services.
- Proactively monitor network environments to identify risks, anomalies, and performance bottlenecks.
- Support 24×7 managed services operations, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Review, maintain, and enhance operational runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base documentation.
- Contribute to service reviews, root cause analysis (RCA), and problem management activities.
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards.
- Collaborate with Service Delivery Managers to meet SLA/SLO targets and maintain high customer satisfaction.
Skills and experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls (VM-Series).
- Proficiency with firewall management platforms such as Strata Cloud Manager and Panorama.
- Familiarity with GlobalProtect.
- Experience with Cloudflare services.
- In-depth knowledge of routing protocols, particularly BGP, including: Prefix-lists, Route-maps and BGP filtering.
- Experience with Cisco Meraki (MX/vMX) and wireless technologies.
- Working knowledge of Cisco ISE.
- Practical experience with Azure Networking, including routing and Network Security Groups (NSGs).
- 5–8 years of experience in network services or a similar role.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Palo Alto technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking and security principles.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot issues across network, system, and application layers.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds.
- Familiarity with ITSM processes (Incident, Change, and Problem Management).
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance.
