Role: Venue Manager
Location: Medway
Hours: Full-time - 35 hours per week - Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm (occasional weekends and nights)
Salary: £32,000 per annum
Contract: 3-Month Temp-Perm (Potential for Perm)

Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Venue Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of a busy licensed venue, including bar operations, food, events and evening trade. The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring the venue operates safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard, whilst managing and supporting the venue team.

This is a hands‑on comprehensive management position suited to someone with previous experience within a licensed, hospitality, events or similar environment, who is confident managing people, HR, finance, operations, stock, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of the venue
  • Lead, support and develop the venue team, including supervisors, team leaders and operational staff.
  • Manage staff rotas, attendance, hours and day‑to‑day staffing requirements
  • Take operational responsibility for events, working closely with organisers, clients and internal teams to ensure successful delivery.
  • Coordinate venue opening and closing procedures, ensuring all relevant security, safety and operational checks are completed.
  • Manage bar operations, including stock levels, ordering, stock control, cellar management and minimising waste.
  • Monitor sales, costs, margins and overall financial performance, contributing to budgets and commercial targets.
  • Ensure the venue operates in accordance with licensing requirements, health and safety legislation and internal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, contractors, security providers and other external partners.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, training, performance management and development of venue staff.
  • Maintain high standards of venue equipment, fixtures, fittings and operational areas, liaising with facilities teams where repairs or maintenance are required.
  • Develop and implement appropriate risk assessments, emergency procedures and safety measures for venue operations and events.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of an ongoing programme of entertainment and events.
  • Maintain accurate operational, financial, incident, stock and performance records, providing regular reports to senior management.
  • Provide hands‑on support during busy periods and events, assisting the wider venue team where required.

Requirements

  • Previous management experience within a licensed trade, hospitality, events or similar environment.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, with occasional evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Willingness to carry out ad hoc work across other parts of the business.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a team.
  • Good knowledge of stock control, cash handling, financial procedures and cost management.
  • Understanding of licensing requirements and health and safety within a venue environment.
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach with the ability to lead by example.
  • Personal Licence holder, or willingness to obtain one.
  • First Aid qualification, or willingness to undertake training.
