We are looking for an experienced Estimator with a background in steel fabrication to join a busy engineering team. You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals for projects including boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and pressure piping. The role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, understanding client requirements, and working out material, labour, and production costs - all while making sure everything meets industry codes like ASME and API.
What You’ll Do
- Review RFQs, technical drawings, specifications, and client documents
- Analyse project scope and identify requirements
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, consumables, subcontracting, and overheads
- Work with procurement to get supplier pricing
- Prepare and submit commercial and technical proposals
- Attend pre-bid meetings and answer technical queries
- Interpret fabrication drawings, GA drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and welding details
- Perform material take-offs (MTO) and assess fabrication complexity
- Ensure work complies with ASME, API, and other relevant codes
- Estimate raw materials, labour hours, and subcontracted services (heat treatment, testing, transport)
- Work with Engineering, Production, QA/QC, and Procurement teams
- Keep records, track costs, and analyse historical data to improve accuracy
About You
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- 3-8 years’ experience in estimation, ideally in steel fabrication or heavy engineering
- Experience with boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, or pressure piping projects
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes and welding methods
- Familiar with ASME, API, and other international codes
Skills You’ll Need
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel grades
- Confident with MS Excel and estimation software
- Understanding of fabrication processes including rolling, forming, welding, NDT, PWHT, hydrotesting, and painting
