A large UK university is looking for a Cloud Architect to join its Digital Services team, delivering secure, scalable cloud platforms that support teaching, learning, and research. This is a hands-on, player-coach role, combining architecture with engineering across modern cloud and DevOps environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver cloud architecture (Azure-focused, some AWS)
- Build and deploy infrastructure using IaC (Azure Bicep)
- Implement secure networking and governance controls (VNets, Private Endpoints, Azure Policy)
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps)
- Deploy AI and data services into production
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and support
- Mentor engineers and promote best practice
Requirements
Essential:
- Strong experience in a senior cloud role (Architect/Engineer)
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure
- Proven IaC delivery (Bicep preferred)
- Experience with Azure security & networking
- CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
- Scripting (PowerShell/Bash)
- Ability to balance strategy and hands-on delivery
Desirable:
- Azure certifications (AZ-305 / AZ-400)
- Docker / Kubernetes (AKS)
- Terraform
- Experience in regulated environments
