We are supporting a leading organisation in Essex seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their IT Services team on a contract basis. This is a hands-on technical role requiring extensive expertise in server infrastructure, VMware virtualisation, Active Directory and enterprise storage environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and supporting critical infrastructure services across multiple sites, ensuring high availability, security and performance of core systems.

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be based in Essex, possess a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel regularly between sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support, maintain and administer enterprise server infrastructure environments.
  • Manage and optimise VMware vSphere virtualisation platforms.
  • Administer Windows Server 2016/2022 environments.
  • Maintain and support Microsoft Active Directory services, including integration and troubleshooting.
  • Manage Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies and associated infrastructure.
  • Support server backup and restore technologies, ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery compliance.
  • Provide remote administration and support across multiple NHS locations.
  • Monitor, manage and troubleshoot infrastructure performance and security using enterprise tools.
  • Support connectivity across HSCN (Health & Social Care Network) environments.
  • Work within ITIL-aligned processes, including incident, problem and change management.
  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations and service improvement projects.
Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Extensive knowledge of server infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience with VMware vSphere, VMware virtualisation infrastructure, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and Server Backup & Restore technologies.
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Active Directory administration, management and maintenance.
  • Experience administering Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2022.
  • Sound knowledge of Active Directory services integration.
  • Basic LAN, TCP/IP and networking troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with infrastructure security and monitoring tools, including Zscaler and SolarWinds.
  • Experience supporting HSCN connectivity and NHS infrastructure environments.
  • Experience of remote administration and support.
  • ITIL awareness or formal ITIL training.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Requirements:
  • Must be currently based in Essex.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to travel regularly between sites across Essex.
Desirable:
  • Previous public sector experience.
  • Experience supporting critical infrastructure in highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure infrastructure services.
