Client Overview
Keystone Recruitment Partners are delighted to be working with a growing, technology-led healthcare organisation founded by clinicians with first-hand experience of the NHS. The team is driven by a genuine commitment to improving patient care, modernising healthcare delivery and using technology to make services more timely, efficient and effective.
They are now looking for a Senior / Lead Test Engineer to take ownership of their automated testing capability and help mature the wider quality engineering approach. This is a hands-on role, suited to someone who can code automation daily while also guiding QA colleagues, improving testing standards and shaping how quality is embedded across delivery. The business already has an established Playwright automation framework and a sizeable automated UI test suite. The focus now is to strengthen and scale that capability by improving coverage, reliability, CI/CD integration and testing across new functionality, services and integrations.
Key Experience Required
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright, ideally using C#, with the ability to build and maintain reliable automated test suites.
- Experience with BDD tooling such as ReqnRoll, SpecFlow, Cucumber or similar.
- Good working knowledge of .NET / C# environments, with the ability to work closely with backend engineers.
- Experience testing beyond the UI, including APIs, services, integrations, Azure Functions and background processes.
- Ability to improve automation quality, including test stability, execution speed, diagnostics, reporting and reducing flaky tests.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps.
- Strong understanding of automation strategy, including how to balance UI, API, service and integration testing.
- Comfortable working with developers, QA and delivery stakeholders to improve testability, acceptance criteria and release confidence.
- Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting QA colleagues moving from manual testing into automation.
- Active use of AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar, with an understanding of their benefits and limitations.
- Experience with TypeScript / JavaScript, performance testing, contract testing, cross-browser testing, test reporting dashboards, test data management or quality metrics would be beneficial.
Personal Attributes
- Proactive, hands-on and self-motivated
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Clear communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborative and supportive with less experienced QA colleagues
- Organised, detail-focused and pragmatic
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
- Interested in continuous improvement, automation and modern testing practices
Interview Process
- Initial screening call covering role fit, availability and expectations
- Technical interview focused on Playwright, automation strategy, CI/CD and problem solving
- Final discussion around collaboration, ownership and ways of working
This is a highly collaborative, patient-focused environment with a strong culture built around ownership, compassion and continuous improvement. The organisation’s technology platform supports a safe, national healthcare service for patients across the full journey, from referral through to treatment and discharge. The belief at the heart of the business is simple: every NHS patient deserves the best possible healthcare.
