We are recruiting on behalf of a privately-owned contractor based in Berkshire that specializes in delivering groundworks and surfacing projects across the UK. Due to sustained growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are seeking a Senior Groundworks/Civils Quantity Surveyor to work alongside their procurement team to oversee all cost and procurement, reporting into the Operations Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Civils & Groundworks Senior Surveyor ensures that construction projects remain profitable for the company by purchasing cost-effective materials & sub-contractor resources for projects.
  • Working in a senior position within the procurement department.
  • Reporting to the Operations Director and providing support for the rest of the team.
  • Manage the purchase and supply of all project procured goods and sub-contractor services related to:
  • Groundworks (Including BoQ’s)
  • Soil Stabilisation
  • Enabling Works (tree removal, demo etc)
  • Landscaping
  • Natural Pitches
  • Irrigation
  • Utility Supplies
  • Successfully manage a large supplier base; negotiating improved supplier terms and pricing.
  • Negotiate favourable terms, conditions and prices with suppliers to secure advantageous agreements.
  • Negotiate contracts, handle disputes, and build strong partnerships with key suppliers to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Monitor supplier performance, verify compliance with agreements over time, and modify procurement strategy to maintain cost savings, quality, and supply‑chain resilience.
  • Long-term planning to ensure best value from suppliers while supporting goals such as cost savings, sustainability, & innovation.
  • Investigate new suppliers, contrast their products or services, negotiate prices, and establish trustworthy relationships.
  • Analyse market trends, supply chain risks and opportunities to optimise the procurement processes.
  • Investigating bulk/multi project deals with suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Volume based supplier deals and rebate schemes.
  • Ensure all purchasing follows legal, ethical, and company standards, and identify risks in the supply chain before they become problems.
  • Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials.
  • Providing advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items.
  • Liaising with estimator at the estimating stage to ensure that an accurate project cost/tender is provided.
  • Attend project internal handover meetings to understand full project requirements.
  • Arrange and attend supplier meetings in order to analyse and discuss supplier performance, as well as gain knowledge of the full portfolio of products and services offered.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Contracts Team to finalise and confirm the weekly production schedule based on customer requirements and available material stocks.
  • Analyse internal purchasing processes and suggest improvements to ensure continuity of the department’s performance.
  • Monitor spending against project budgets, find savings opportunities, and ensure contracts stay within budget without sacrificing quality.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Checking and signing off major groundwork sub-contractor valuations.
  • Invoice and delivery note checking and authorising the same.
  • Attendance at key industry supplier shows.
  • Civils & Groundworks Senior Surveyor Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills to help negotiations and ensure that expectations are clear.
    • Proficiency in data analysis, financial analysis, procurement software, and reporting.
    • Knowledge of ethical standards, climate change policies, and sustainability.
    • Ability to evaluate supplier performance, conduct audits.
    • Problem-solving skills to address potential disruptions and develop contingency plans.
    • Ability to assess and mitigate supply chain risks effectively.

    Requirements:

    • Quantity Surveying biased degree.
    • At least 3 - 5 years’ experience working for a Groundworks or Civils contractor as a Quantity Surveyor.

    Benefits:
